The same standard,
closer to the ground.
One region at a time, with writers who live there or know it well. Regions reports what a national headline misses: the district, the river, the market, the school, and the numbers the local office actually keeps.
How the desk is organised
Eight regions.
No favourites.
Which region publishes first depends on which writer we commission first. None has a date of its own yet, and we will not invent one. Every tile below is an open invitation.
South Asia
Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, the Maldives, Afghanistan.

Pitch from here ↗How a Regions piece is reported
From the ground.
Read by someone who knows it.
Three things make a Regions piece different from a World piece. The sourcing rule is the same.
The writer was there
Regions pieces are written by people who live in the place or have spent real time in it. We say on the piece which it is.
Local records first
The district office, the provincial statistics bureau, the court list, the school census. National totals come second, and we say when the two disagree.
A second reader who knows the place
Before publication a second person who knows the region checks the names, the places, the spellings and the context, as well as the facts.
First reports in January 2027.
No region has a date of its own. The first to publish will be the one whose writer we commission first, and the piece will say who wrote it, where they were, and which records they read. If that writer should be you, the desk pays per piece and agrees the rate before you start.
