Four rules, applied to every piece, by someone other than the person who wrote it. They are short because they have to be kept.

    A primary source for every claim

    A treaty text, a dataset, a published study, a court record, an audited report. Not a story about a story. The sources are listed on the piece, numbered; where a claim is contested, more than one.

    A second person checks it

    A piece carries the words "Fact-checked" only after someone other than the writer has checked every claim. Until then it does not, and the piece says so in its last line.

    Every piece is labelled

    Report, Explainer, Analysis or Progress, so you know what kind of thing you are reading before you start.

    Corrections in public

    Every correction is logged on the piece itself and on one public page, with the date and what changed. Write to [email protected].
